Ultra-comfort is the best way to describe a recliner chair. It's no wonder why daddy or grandpa used to spend so many hours relaxing on it. And it's not only about relaxation and well-deserved rest because a recliner has a lot more to offer in terms of entertainment and inspired design for any living room.
Size of the rocker recliner
The rocker recliner is the most popular type of recliners. A very important detail to take into consideration when searching for a recliner chair is its size. We want it to be a good fit for our room, that's why we'll have to measure the size of our space and the recliner itself. The recliner should be measured while fully reclined because we want around 1 foot to 3 feet of space from the wall. More important than the size of the space is the size of our body. After all, it's expected one will spend a considerable amount of time in that chair, and that time has to be as relaxing as possible. The theory is simple: the head should comfortably fit the headrest, while our feet touch the floor in the sitting position. Rocker recliners can be found in regular size or big and tall sizes. A regular one will welcome most body types and sizes for a relieving evening kick back. Big and tall recliners are designed for the bigger ones. Not only are they constructed to withstand a heavier load, but their cushions are also thicker in order to avoid deformations. The overall construction is more robust and solid.
Types of Rocker Recliners
Manual recliner
The manual recliner is almost a century old. During these many years, it has become an owner's best friend thanks to the relieving comfort it has to offer. This is the most classic, budget version you can get. We like the manual recliner because it's affordable and simple – no electric circuits and nothing to break, although we can't deny that this option might be somewhat limited in functionality, as the mechanism allows only 2 or 3 positions.
Powered rocker recliner
The power rocker recliner chair replaces the lever or handles with a button or more of them. This gizmo ensures reclining is effortless. The electric version of the recliner can feature options like heating, message or USB charging. The downside of a powered recliner is its price – such pieces will be more expensive than a manual recliner.
Rocker Recliners Style
Recliner chairs come in many different styles, but we'll focus on the most popular ones.
Traditional
Traditional design prides itself with history and offers an air of privilege. Originating from the 18th century, this is a favorite among the classic lovers. Rocker recliners crafted in this style employ refined colors, perfect symmetry, and an excellent balance. Many of them feature button back finishes and large, extra deep wings – which is a classic when it comes to traditional furniture. Wood is used in abundance here, partly because of its durability, but also thanks to that timeless effect that it exhibits. The material used will often be fabric, both natural and synthetic. Leather is rarely used, as this is representative for another style that we'll describe. Some pieces of furniture may be antiques or reproductions of styles that were popular in previous times. Traditional design is fundamentally uncomplicated: lines are simple, functionality is elementary and the touch is smooth.
Modern
The philosophy of modern design is to blend the finest features of other styles in order to create topmost pieces for unforgettable interiors. It is meant to contrast styles that use heavy textures, carvings and wood tones throughout the house, proposing clean and straight lines with no additional detail. Modern rocker recliners will enrich a space as long as it follows the overall room style – colors should be contrasting, but relaxing, edges and lines complementary and fine; the idea is to add and enhance, but in a balanced manner – we're looking for comfort and serenity, something that doesn't allow for too much extravagance.
Safety first!
There is no rocker recliner buying guide without a safety reminder. Kids and small pets can get injured within various components. We want our rocker recliner to have as little space as possible between its various elements because we don't want any fingers or animal paws injured. The sliding and locking mechanisms should absolutely be of high quality, this ensures a rocker recliner remains stationary or rocks only when the owner desires so.
Materials
As mentioned above, leather and faux leather is used more often in the modernistic approach of design, with many rocker recliners even exhibiting perforated leather that allows the material to breathe for extra comfort, an option we love because it's expected that a lot of time will be spent on that chair, and that time has to be absolutely relaxing.
Filling
Because of its aim to provide the utmost comfort, recliners are made following a strict industrial process. The filling is generally made of polyurethane foam, polyester fiberfill, die-cut fiberboard. Foam bodies are compressed by sucking out air bubbles. Polyurethane foam is especially preferred thanks to its capacity to be sculpted – offering an ergonomic upholstered back and seat. Foam bodies are pushed into sewn cushion in order to fill out neatly.
Features
Nowadays, in the era of technological advancement, many recliners will feature different options that the old ones couldn't even dream of. And even though the old ones we're comforting enough, a massage function takes the rocker recliner a level up. The same goes for the USB charging – why stand up when you're in the middle of a relax session? Other options are cupholders and remote control support, AUX or Bluetooth connections, and one of our favorites: built-in speakers.
Summary
Rocker recliners have come a long way, almost a century, to be more precise. Their presence in the living room should be considered paramount for every hard working man and woman that are looking for a well-deserved rest in the evening. Get your favorite beverage, put some music on, rock that chair and relax. You deserve it!
